Picture a butterfly taking its first hesitant flight then taking to the skies with delight, fluttering through the fields, woods, rivers, mountains, and towns of Romania.
The butterfly’s ascent is symbolic of a new joint venture in wine promoted with the foresight of Marchesi Antinori, based on the firm belief of the potential of Romanian viticulture, on confidence in the country’s future, and on a development strategy that is open to new realities.
Metamorfosis is the fruit of the coming together of Antinori’s twenty-six generations of tradition in the world of wine, with Halewood’s knowledge and prominence in Romania and with the professionalism of the oenologist Fiorenzo Rista, sharpened by his long-lasting experience in the vineyards and cellars of this country.
The union at the core of the Metamorfosis project demands ambitious goals. We are an international group of high prestige, globally renowned for the quality of our wines, and we aim to build on our roots that are planted deeply in Romanian history and its ancient traditions in the Arts of Bacchus. Metamorfosis wines will stand among the best produced in the country, developing both international and local varieties, and able in the future to cross borders and compete for quality with the best world production. We would so like to make our contribution in building a wider knowledge and a stronger international image for Romanian wines.
After a careful analysis and many visits to different wine areas, we have chosen the beautiful region of Dealu Mare, where we acquired 100 hectares of land, all with superb exposure for our vineyards. A small plot of Cabernet Sauvignon that was already planted allowed us to produce our first vintage in a small number of bottles.
We proudly present our Cantus Primus 2007, our first song, the first flight of our little butterfly.
This year we planted 25 new hectares with international and Romanian varieties, among which Feteasca Neagra, Negru de Dragasani, Feteasca Alba, and we shall continue till completion. We are developing our own cellar, but for the present time we are free hosts in the cellars of our partners and great friends Cramele Halewood.
We will be driven by quality; we shall make every effort towards excellence; rooted in tradition we shall always strive for originality and perfection.
