Before Marchesi Antinori decided where exactly the wine growing activity should be based in Romania, the company’s specialists had visited several vineyards in all the major wine regions. They all agreed with the Dealu Mare vineyard for its fantastic potential, for its optimal conditions, the soil and a very good exposure. In addition, there is a similarity between Dealu Mare and Tuscany, one of the most famous wine regions in Europe and in the world.
The entire domain owned by Vitis Metamorfosis in Dealu Mare Vineyard covers an area of 100 hectares. Out of the total area, 67.5 hectares are planted with 58 hectares already producing grapes and another 9.5 hectares, which were planted in 2010 and 2012, are expected to have the first yield starting with 2014.
So far we have planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Fetească Neagră (Black Maiden), Negru de Dragăşani, Fetească Regală (Royal Maiden), Fetească Albă (White Maiden), Tămâioasă Românească (Romanian frankincense grape), Muscat Ottonel, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. We plan on planting grape vines on the entire domain in the near future. 15 hectares are of organically grown vineyards and the area will be extended in the future.
Vitis Metamorfosis obtained certification for the first crop of organic grapes by Austria Bio Garantie in 2013, after being carefully monitored over the past three years. Austria Bio Garantie is one of the European leaders in terms of inspection and certification of organic agriculture.
Organic farming prohibits the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides or insecticides treatment, the amelioration of the soil is obtained only by using natural fertilizers. The quality of the grapes from organic cultures is superior to those conventionally obtained and thus the wine that is obtained is unique for its organic properties.
